This is a very interesting ink. I spent a considerable amount of time looking at swatches in store and making considerations. The swatch is beautiful in store! The swatches online both on this site and on other sites are rich and dark with a lot of nice shading and warmth even nice and dark in the writing samples. In my experience this ink writes mostly light silvery green with slight depth and subtle red glitter and brown where the ink has a chance to pool. Unlike the name Autumn Forest would suggest, to me it evokes the silvery bottoms of olive leaves flickering on the wind in a mature orchard, late summer. It really is a beautiful color but not at all the same as any of the swatches I've seen. I understand that there are factors that have to work together for an ink to look a certain way, the pen, paper and ink. That's why I've paired it with a TWSBI eco and 1.1 stub. I've tried it on several papers with similar results, Tsubame fools paper, tomoe river, Life Noble, Rhodia. The sample I give here looks darker in the photo than it presents in person, it's on modern tomoe river paper, lined is Tsubame fools, for reference. I also only adjusted the brightness and cropped the images. Again this is a beautiful color and I'm happy I have it, it was just a surprise when it hit my paper.
I came in to try this out in person. I felt welcome the moment I walked through the door. Staff was so kind and spent time with me and my wife geeking out over the pens and answering all our questions.
This is my first TWSBI! I didn't get the hype till I came in and handled them for myself. I thought from pictures online that they looked "cheep" but in person I can really see and feel the quality and attention to detail. The green marbling has depth and it feels substantial in the hand. I was excited about getting a pen I can have fun with specialty inks with glitter, sheen and chroma shading. I purchased Dominant Industry autumnal Forest which is heavy in glitter and looks fantastic coming out of this 1.1 stub nib. I can't wait to put other inks through this pen, I just want to keep picking this pen up to write.
Love the style, colors and details of this pen! And it brings the great writing feel of an Esterbrook!
This was my first time ordering this planner. It's simple, clean, and the paper handles my fountain pens well. It is everything I need.
Just the pen I’ve been looking for!
The aluminum finish is definitely a step up from the normal squeaky plastic some of the other models can get. It’s incredibly comfortable to write long sessions with as well as having a very smooth writing experience. I also tend to lean more towards larger body fountain pens and this fits perfectly. The only downside is that it doesn’t come with a converter but thankfully this wonderful shop has those. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.
I love the Press’ designs. This notebook made a wonderful gift!
This store is a little gem! We love visiting and will be back. My husband is busy spending his bday gift card I got him recently. He loved receiving it! Thank you!
While I was in the city on a business trip, I stopped by Papillon Press. They didnt have a fountain pen I was looking for but offered for me to try a similar one. I ended up liking it and finding an ink in my favorite color, something I was also looking for. The swatch book was especially helpful when making this decision. The owner was so sweet and helpful. I would highly recommend this store to anyone who like stationery
Lovely, great to use.
Vernon is an expert craftsman and one heck of a bookbinder. William Morris would have been proud to have him in his studio.
I have to start by saying that shading inks are my favorite. :) When I picked up this Frost to try it out at the St. Louis store, I loved the way it wrote enough to add it to my collection - but what I didn't know was that it would turn a regular old Kaweco Smokey Grey (which didn't shade at all in the fountain pen I had it inked in before) to such a lovely shader that I am tempted to just stare at it as I write! And this is with a fine nib. Will definitely be purchasing another!
Papillon has an awry of great gifts ideas for writers. My friend loved the pen.
Love this store! Great pens and fun items. St. Louis really needed this store. I so enjoy going to it even if it is just to look. Customer service cannot be beat.
I've never tried a glass pen however this writes beautifully and makes changing ink colors simple,
